Last week I speculated that GM Cruise Automation was close to announcing a robotaxi service given the company announcement of hiring their first chief communications officer, Kristine Boyden. Well, it seems that the Cruise announcement later today is one where the company is revealing its first vehicle developed to operate without a driver according to Automotive News (subscription required). A Cruise spokesperson is saying that the vehicle the company will showcase today is “definitely not a car.” GM Cruise postponed the launch of a self-driving taxi service last year. Maybe this announcement will be a sign that the company is close to launching that service.
Disclosure: I own shares of General Motors stock.
