The Amazon-led $700 million investment in Rivian last February is beginning to make sense. It seems that Amazon’s plan to meet the goals of the Paris climate accord 10 years ahead of schedule will include the purchase of 100,000 Rivian-produced electric delivery vans. Rivian is the Plymouth Michigan based electric vehicle company that has been making a splash in the EV industry since last year’s unveiling of their SUV and pickup truck models during the LA Auto Show. Under Amazon’s carbon neutral plan called “Carbon Pledge” Amazon will begin deploying the Rivian electric vans starting in 2021. And according to Rivian, this is the largest order to date of any electric delivery vehicles.
