The publisher of Automotive News, Jason Stein, wrote a commentary piece (subscription required) this week that his team had an early hint of what was coming due to coronavirus. Stein described a WhatsApp conversation with his associate editor who is in Europe. On February 27, Luca Ciferri wrote that the virus seemed to be spreading beyond China, because there seemed to be another European city acting as the origin of infections in Switzerland and Germany. That city was Milan. Today, Italy has been hit hard by Covid-19. And it seems that the entire automotive industry in the U.S. and Europe is quickly shutting down.
