While Tesla gets lots of attention, GM has been building electric and autonomous vehicle capabilities over many years that seem to be missed by many. Now that the GM-Nikola partnership has been announced, maybe GM will begin to get some investor credit for its technology development. The Nikola deal will have GM building the Nikola Badger electric and fuel cell pickup using GM’s unique Ultium battery technology. This deal, together with GM’s deepening Honda EV and autonomous vehicle partnership seems to validate the company’s technology. And let’s not forget Softbank’s $2.25 billion investment in GM’s Cruise autonomous vehicle subsidiary along with another $2.75 billion from Honda as well.
