At last week’s JD Power Auto Revolution conference in Las Vegas, Apple co-founder (Steve Wozniak) stated that he’s changed his mind on the development of fully autonomous vehicles. He now does not believe fully autonomous vehicles will ever occur. He doesn’t think the necessary changes in roads and infrastructure will be executed to allow for autonomous vehicles. Wozniak also isn’t sure he’d want to buy a vehicle without a steering wheel. “If I could drive a car without a wheel, why would I want a car,” Wozniak stated. That’s definitely an interesting view. What many like Wozniak seem to miss is the potential future of transportation that gets people to desired locations without the need for vehicle ownership. I’m sure there will be wealthy folks who might still own non-self-driving cars. But the vast majority of people will travel in vehicles without owning those vehicles.
