There are reports that VW is having software code issues with the new all-electric ID3 vehicle according to Automotive News (subscription required). The software problems are so challenging that 10,000 technicians are supposedly working to fix the software glitches. Evidently the vehicles continue to roll off the assembly line, then are taken to storage facilities where the software will be manually installed afterwards.
You may recall there was a lot of shade thrown at Tesla by traditional automotive media when the company struggled with production glitches early in the lifecycle of Model 3. It seems that this electric vehicle development and production game might be more challenging than many in the automotive industry believed. And if a company with the resources of the VW Group is struggling, then others will be wise to take note.
