In an interesting Barron’s article, Larry Ellison (Oracle’s founder and executive chairman) reportedly said at a recent event that he does not see the investment logic for WeWork and Uber. While discussing Uber, he asserted that the company has no technology and no loyalty from customers. Ellison, who is also a Tesla board member, believes Tesla could introduce a ride sharing service using autonomous cars at prices two-thirds what Uber charges. Of course, Uber is also working on the development of autonomous vehicles as well. If you had to bet on which company could better deploy self-driving vehicles for a ride sharing business, would you pick Uber or Tesla? Interestingly, CNBC reported last year that Elon Musk is planning to compete with Uber and Lyft using self-driving vehicles.
