GM’s Cruise autonomous driving subsidiary announced yesterday it’s laying off 8 percent of it’s full-time employees. During this time of COVID-19, many analysts believe companies like GM cannot continue to invest in both electric vehicle development and autonomous vehicle development. Many believe the development of EVs, however, is sacred and might even accelerate during this time. With no near-term path to revenue, much AV development could be shelved by companies investing in both technologies today. If so, which companies might make this decision? And will those that continue their AV investments be winners or losers in the race to monetize AV technology?
